The English Cemetery (Cementerio Inglés de Málaga)

The weekend was beautiful and sunny, perfect for exploring Malaga again. This time the first stop was The English Cemetery (Cementerio Inglés de Málaga).

Arriving mid-morning, when only a handful of others had found their way in, we were able to move unhurriedly among the headstones, lingering where we chose, reading inscriptions and absorbing fragments of lives once lived.

Silently, we traced stories of different times and people — tragic events, young lives cut short, older ones ending naturally yet clearly still missed — each marker a reminder of how deeply people are shaped by who walks beside them.

Not surprisingly, I felt an immense sense of love, loss, and grief, but also a renewed energy for life itself, as though being present there sharpened my awareness of how rare and fleeting each shared moment truly is.

Of all the reflections that surfaced, one stood out most clearly: no matter the problems we may face, we are still alive; the past remains behind us, the future uncertain yet rich with promise —but what truly matters is this moment, exactly as it is.

With that thought came Horace’s words, Carpe Diem — a reminder that the now is not something to pass through, but something to hold.
